John P Kotter in his book, 'Leading Change' identified 8 stages which are critical to the change process. Only stages 1 and 2 are relevant to this discussion. If we want our organisation to change, we must first create a sense of urgency. It is not enough to wait for our competitors to overtake us, for productivity to fall to critical levels before we decide it is time. This is Stage 1
Stage 2 is equally as important. Create a Guiding Coalition, a small body of key players within the business who recognise the need to improve, are committed to seeking change and are prepared to make the necessary decisions and stick by them, to make it happen
